Tanner’s Story
Tanner is the youngest of three, having two older sisters. They were nine and six when we found out about Tanner so he is affectionately known as the prince. I had prenatal testing done that indicated Tanner would have Down Syndrome. After birth the Down Syndrome diagnosis was confirmed along with the ASV/VSD heart defects. We made weekly visits to the cardiologist to keep an eye on his heart and his weight. Things weren't getting better so at 6 months he had open heart surgery. He now has a complete/whole heart! In the meantime, Tanner was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and continuous fluid on his ears. He has had about nine sets of tubes - three of which were T-tubes along with two mastoidectomy surgeries. However, he continues to have ear issues.
Life is different than we imagined but it is grand and we wouldn't have it any other way.
At the age of five, Tanner began having seizures. At first they were a year or so apart but have continuously gotten more frequent. In the meantime, he has developed migraines. Despite all of this, he is a champion and an extremely active and happy boy. He is 12 years old, in the 5th grade at Madison Ave Upper Elementary, and plays on the Miracle League baseball team and Hoops basketball team. He loves his Ole Miss Rebels - baseball is his first love with football coming in second. He will tell you he is going to play for "coach" Mike Bianco one day. He adores and is adored by his sisters and our community. Life is different than we imagined but it is grand and we wouldn't have it any other way. When he entered our lives, we developed a new normal and life is so much better!
this is Tanner’s first year as a miracle kid and we are so happy to welcome him into the rebelthon family!
